Neglecting services can prove costly
Today’s extended professional care intervals, while a good thing in most ways, can also cantankerous neglecting servicing altogether and that can prove very up-market in the long run.
Even basic jobs such as spark wad changing tend to be forgotten. This is understandable with recommended interchange intervals of more than 100 000km in some instances.
But it’s not all bad hearsay. When a little old lady (she’d kill me if she heard that!) brought her misfiring Golf to me, a few minutes’ line and renewing the spark plugs got it running sweetly again.
If only things were always that unassuming.
You would imagine that such a basic and inevitable part of servicing would be moderate on any vehicle, however sophisticated, but one car in particular proves that it fitting ain’t so.
In fact, when I was asked to do a service and puff change on an early V6 Jaguar S-type, I was fortunately too detailed to take the job and passed it on to a guy I know who is a bit of a masochist.
