Saints, Hawks into NBL final
Meaning Rod Grizzard had 25 points (including 4/6 from the arc) for Nelson, experienced Kiwi Phill Jones scored 19, and Mika Vukona put together 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Saints will now deal with the Bay Hawks in the final after they upset the previously red-hot Waikato Pistons 95-86 in the first semi.
Waikato carried an 11-meet winning streak into the Final Four, but were completely out-passioned by their opponents down the bend.
The first half featured 10 lead changes and five ties, but once the Hawks got their noses in front dilatory in the second quarter, they were never again headed. The Pistons closed to within four untimely in the final quarter, but six straight points, including a trey from direct attention to guard Jarrod Kenny, carried the Bay unobstructed again.
Waikato also faced a massive handicap in the vicious count, with the match officials awarding Hawks a 38-16 gain in free-throw attempts. While Hawks didn't bud particularly well (66 percent) from the line, they were still 11 points better in this attribute of the game.
