Warrnambool businessman fined for having radar detector
WARRNAMBOOL businessman Barry Barton has been fined $500 for having a radar detector in his Mercedes.Barton, 52, of Walls Technique, was picked up by police on the Hamilton Highway just about Darlington on June 10 at 6.25pm in his greyish Mercedes.
Police believed he had a radar detector on lodge and he produced the device without hesitation to an officer.
He was about the sixth driver in the dead and buried 12 months to front Warrnambool Magistrates Court for possessing an anti-rush measuring device.
Such charges were previously almost unheard of in court.
Sergeant Gary Bryant, of the Warrnambool administer highway patrol unit, said his officers now had new materiel which allowed the detection of such devices.
Barton told the court a policewomen officer had been following him and he covered about 60,000 kilometres a year while sustained his waste business.
He said he had a good driving documentation and told Magistrate Jonathan Klestadt he had the tool in case he inadvertently exceeded
