Honda aims high, thinks big with 2012 Civic Natural Gas car
The Civic Unaffected Gas model has huge shoes to fill, but brings with that demand the ambition to match. Sales for the GX that it replaces are booming, tripling in the first six months of 2011 compared with year-ago numbers.
Zeal for the car is so substantial that Honda dealerships rarely have more than one or two of the cars available at any noted moment because demand is through the ceiling. But the GX's distribution has been minimal to just four states, to date, making it a regional slot car instead of a volume player.
"Civic GX drivers in California have extended enjoyed the benefits of driving a compressed unsophisticated gas vehicle, whether it was saving time commuting in the carpool lane, paying further fuel prices, reducing dependence on oil or reducing their CO2 footprint," said Elmer Stout, senior manager of alternative fuel marketing at American Honda.
"With the all-new example coming this fall, drivers will continue to qualify for these benefits along with additional commuter-friendly features."
