Magellan RoadMate 2.0 (for iPhone)
MiTAC has enormously improved its Magellan RoadMate iPhone app ($79.99, 3 stars), enough to vault it into the top union of mobile GPS navigation options. In fact, it's good enough that you could shake up the standalone GPS device you're currently using, provided you don't attend to using the iPhone's smallish 3.5-inch mesh for navigation. Compared with the standalone Magellan devices we've reviewed recently, like the Magellan RoadMate 9055 , the app has a cleaner interface, it responds more with all speed to finger presses, runs type-at the searches faster, and shows more route materials on screen while you are driving, such as the current road make haste limit. It doesn't quite make Editors' Selection, as the competition hasn't stood still, either—signally TomTom's excellent 1.8 revision of its own app. But it was airless.
iPhone Requirements, POI Search, and User Interface
Magellan RoadMate 2.0 requires an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2 or higher installed. It also works with 3rd and 4th times iPod touch models, providing you bones your player with Magellan's $99.95 Premium Car Kit for iPhone (sold singly), which has its own integrated GPS radio.
