Puzzle: I wanted to replace the air filter on the 2006 Ford Focus that I own. To my surprise the only site to buy it was the Ford dealer at a cost of almost $600. You can imagine how I felt. This is flaky, $600 for an air filter. What are your thoughts?
ANSWER: You are not crazy. The air filter is called an air box located between the liberal front bumper and wheel well molding. It is a complete elephantine assembly. The recommended replacement is 100,000 miles. There are some doing aftermarket air filter assemblies for less money that are serviceable, at if you check online. This is one time when the light bulb was not fervent at Ford.
